The musical is based on the book by Dan Elish. 13 tells the story of Evan, a Jewish kid from New York whose parents’ divorce moves him to Indiana. As the new kid, Evan has got to make friends, then determine if they are the right friends to have.

The musical is set in a middle school in Appleton, Indiana where 13 year olds leap from childhood into a whole new fantastic and frightening era - their teens. Though it is set in the United States, the story is familiar to many youths who suddenly find themselves trying to survive classes, navigate cliques and be in with the cool crowd. The musical speaks to and captivates current, former, and soon to be teens. Although the cast is comprised entirely of teenagers - the stories that come to life are ageless and the emotions they explore timeless.
