Dorothy Bezzina is a versatile performer with great vocal flexibility, currently under the guidance of Soprano Miriam Cauchi. While having been principally active in the musical theatre scene, with several credits to date, she has performed in various annual and commemorative concerts alongside the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as in private concerts and musico-literary events, including Il-Ħolma tal-Poeta (San Anton Palace) and the Three Palaces Festival (Grandmaster’s Palace).
Dorothy has performed for HRH Prince Edward at the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Forum, for the Presidential Oath Of Office Ceremony, during the CHOGM Women’s Forum, and most recently in Natale con Suor Cristina. She has also enjoyed other performing opportunities in Spain, Germany, Italy, Belgium, and the Royal Albert Hall (London), alongside the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Dorothy forms part of Teatru Manoel Youth Opera. Together with the group, and in collaboration with VIBE, she recently performed the role of Arabella in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, directed by Jonathan Cocker and Alice Farnham. In 2014, Dorothy produced and directed her own concert to commemorate her grandfather’s contribution to the scene of local pop music in Maltese during the fifties and sixties.
Dorothy is a teacher of Maltese by profession, having graduated with a BA in Maltese and English, a PGDip in Interpreting and a PGCE from the University of Malta. She has also completed her MA in English through the University of Nottingham on a scholarship offered by STEPS and is currently reading for her second MA in Maltese through the University of Malta.
