ANTHONY BEZZINA
artistic director
anthony bezzina has been established as a theatre director and producer of theatrical events since 1979. He formed part of Maleth, MADC AND ATTURI and can safely say that he has worked and directed all the top local actors. anthony trained at the Malta Theatre Academy of Dramatic Arts (M.T.A.D.A.) and at Webber Douglas in London. His first major work in the theatre was his direction of Moliere’s Tartuffe at the Manoel Theatre, which earned him the ‘Best Production of the Year Award’. This had spurred anthony, and he went on to act in and direct several pantomimes.
His other work as director for MADC includes: Under The Sycamore Tree (Ants), Shaffer’s Public Eye, the musicals My Fair Lady, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Oliver! For the Atturi Group, he directed Tennessee Williams’s Sweet Bird of Youth, De Filippo’s Filumena Marturano, The Servant of Two Masters, Waltz of The Toreadors, Don’t Dress for Dinner and De Filippo’s Saturday Sunday Monday both in Maltese and English. The latter version was also staged at the Moscow National Theatre in Russia.
In 1989 anthony was commissioned by the Maltese government to direct a pageant about the history of Malta to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Malta’s Independence. For MZPN, he directed the original rock opera Zaghzugh, and in 1993, he directed the opening ceremony of the Small Nations Games. In 1998, together with his wife Veronica, anthony launched his theatre company and theatre arts school for youngsters and adults.
For his company Masquerade, he has since directed the musicals Annie, The King and I, Little shop of Horrors, Cabaret, 1565 The Musical and The Rocky Horror Show; the highly commended production of the year Amadeus, Gun-shy, Private Eyes, Tape, Proof, Deja Revue, Revueing the Situation, Noises Off, Like Totally Weird, Five Kinds of Silence, Who is Sylvia The Goat, Doubt, Blackbird and most recently the pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk at this theatre. anthony has directed the first children's opera in Malta, Bel and The Dragon, and the musicals Tin Pan Ali, The Ragged Child, Dracula Spectacula, and Seussical The Musical.
VERONICA BEZZINA

Veronica Bezzina trained in acting at the Manoel Theatre Academy of Dramatic Arts (1981-84). Theatre credits include - For Koperatturi: Gaslight, Therese Raquin, God’s Favourite; For Atturi: The Servant of Two Masters, Evening Light and Saturday Sunday Monday (staged both in Malta & Moscow); For MADC: Under the Sycamore Tree (Ants), Antony and Cleopatra, The Dresser, pantomimes Mother Goose, Robinson Crusoe, Goldilocks & the Three Bears, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella. TV credits include the lead in the 13-part teleserial Wirt.
Veronica has co-ordinated and supervised costumes for several big shows including the mega show which celebrated Malta’s 25th Anniversary of Independence.
In 1997, together with her partner, anthony bezzina, Veronica set up Masquerade Theatre Company. A year later they set up Masquerade Theatre Arts School which she now runs on a full time basis with much energy and dedication. Veronica has produced & coordinated all of Masquerades’ productions to date.
Veronica’s theatre work has taken her to the UK, Italy and other European countries and to date is working on a number of European and international cultural projects, establishing links with both national and international partners.
