Welcome Trinity College London examiner Pat Trueman

A warm welcome to Trinity College London examiner Pat Trueman, currently in Malta to examine the March 2023 face-2-face examination session being held throughout this week. This is the first face-2-face session in Malta since the pandemic.

PAT TRUEMAN BA (HONS) FRSA

Examiner in Drama and Speech Subjects

Pat is a freelance theatre director. She also directs and teaches on the BA Acting programmes at Manchester Metropolitan and Bath Spa Universities and conducts regular workshops on Shakespeare in performance at the British Council School, Madrid.

She has a BA in Drama from Manchester University and trained as an actor at LAMDA. She worked as an actor in theatre, TV and Radio before joining the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester as an assistant director. She worked as a director with touring companies and for the BBC as a Radio Drama Director. Pat has been Artistic Director/Chief Executive of three regional producing theatres, the Oldham Coliseum Theatre, the Swan Theatre, Worcester and the Mercury Theatre, Colchester, directing over 250 theatre and radio productions.

Pat was Director of the Acting Courses at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, responsible for the BA and MA programmes, and Acting and Directing Lecturer at Drama Centre London (University of the Arts) and Middlesex University. Pat was Principal of ALRA (Academy of Live and Recorded Arts) from 2003–08, being responsible for the strategic, academic and creative development of ALRA.

She has been a Director of CDS, a member of NCDT accreditation panels and now works with Drama UK on the documentary reviews for recognition applications from university performing arts departments. Prior to ALRA, Pat was Chief Executive of the Directors Guild of GB, representing directors across all media.

Pat has been External Examiner for the MFA Theatre Directing course at Birkbeck College, University of London (2004-08) and External Academic Advisor for the MA Acting course at Birmingham City University.

She was Vice-Chair of the Board of Theatre Centre 1998-2008 (Professional Theatre for Young People) and sat on the boards of Derby Playhouse and Sphinx Theatre Company. Pat is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a member of Equity and the Directors Guild of GB.

Pat has adapted plays for the BBC World Service, written pantomimes and adapted novels for the stage.
