Masquerade Theatre Company is looking for actors to take part in its next play BIRTHDAY SUIT by David K. Barnes to be staged at Blue Box at M Space this October, under the direction of anthony bezzina.
BIRTHDAY SUIT is a sharp and biting new comedy from one of the UK’s funniest up-and-coming writers David K Barnes (Wooden Overcoats, iTunes Best of 2015 - 'highly recommended' - The Telegraph). PARTS TO BE CAST: DIANE (mid - late 20s) is an accountant and has just joined the company at which Richard works. She is dedicated to her career and has worked hard for it. She has many social anxieties, however, and finds it hard to meet new people. Nevertheless, she is determined to make friends with her new colleagues at the party. When drunk, Diane is more than capable of keeping up her side in an argument. She’s also quite controlling, forcing her boyfriend Nick into a career he doesn’t really want, but always with the best of intentions. VALERIE (mid – late 20s) is Richard’s wife and Nick’s ex-girlfriend, who Nick dumped so that he could go out with Diane. Valerie is a successful interior designer and exudes self-confidence. She uses her obvious sexuality to her advantage, and is able to bully other people into getting her own way. We eventually discover, however, that she is emotionally fragile with weak self-esteem. Her marriage is breaking down. She loves Richard, but he has become increasingly distant emotionally and sexually. She goes to extreme lengths to provoke a reaction in him. The sexy Valerie and bumbling Richard seem at first a mismatched couple, but over the course of the play we discover how much they meant to each other… and how they’ve now lost it forever. The two male roles in this comedy have been cast and will be played by Malcolm Galea and Joe Azzopardi.
Auditions will be held on 22nd, 23rd & 28th June.
