In the coming weeks Masquerade will be once again opening its doors for the twelfth year to children, teenagers and adults who are willing to train in drama, dance and voice. This year is also an important one for Masquerade as the building of the new school premises is well in progress, and should be completed in shell-form by the end of the year. The new premises with more equipment and training facilities will allow the school to offer more opportunities to students.
Both experienced students who wish to improve their skills and new comers who are willing to give it a try are welcome by the energetic Masquerade team. Masquerade is composed of qualified performing arts educators who have experience in their respective fields. The school focuses on giving personalized attention to each student and on nurturing creativity while teaching practical skills for performing on stage. Students will not only learn about drama and theatre but will also work on important skills such as concentration, self-confidence and communication in a group setting.
Masquerade is a leader in its field and the most distinctive aspect of the training provided by the school is the innovative and disciplined approach as well as its focus on student empowerment. The Masquerade team ensures that its teaching goes beyond simply offering courses, and that concrete opportunities are offered to the students so that their training is truly an enriching learning experience.
The school has organized various summer experience modules, drama camps and master classes with foreign tutors. It also offers the international Trinity Guildhall Examinations thus allowing students to obtain qualifications in Speech and Drama that are recognized locally by the Malta Qualifications Board. Masquerade also prepares students for auditions with international schools and film agencies. In fact many Maltese students who have opted to continue their studies abroad or who are currently participating in local theatre and TV productions, had started off their training at Masquerade. Masquerade’s theatre company has also produced no less than 50 performances over the years ranging from musical theatre to drama and comedy.
As anthony bezzina eagerly prepares for another full year of theatre activity, he has this to say about the school’s progress “Commitment - that of the staff and the students is the key to the school’s success. Eleven years ago, little did we imagine that we would encounter so much enthusiasm: the eagerness of professionals to teach their art and the determination of students to improve their skills? As a school we have the obligation to seek high standards and to continuously encourage our students to keep improving their skills and to grab learning opportunities.”
