For its next musical theatre project Masquerade will be trying its luck with the new, magnetic musical 13, which will be staged in November. Masquerade is now on the look out for an energetic cast of all-teen performers (playing age 13 years) and a teen six-piece band.
Based on the book by Dan Elish, with lyrics and music by Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown, 13 is a funny, exciting love letter to childhood and to the elusive moment when the child in all of us embarks on the path of adulthood. That moment is illuminated with song, dance and wit.
The musical is set in a middle school in Appleton, Indiana where 13 year olds leap from childhood into a whole new fantastic and frightening era - their teens. Though it is set in the United States, the story is familiar to many youths who suddenly find themselves trying to survive classes, navigate cliques and be in with the cool crowd. 13 is a provoking and engaging story, told with contagious energy and humour. The musical speaks to and captivates current, former, and soon to be teens.
For over ten years Masquerade has been working on producing youth theatre productions of high quality and this is yet another opportunity for the theatre company to invest in new talent. Masquerade is looking for youths aged 13 to 18 who can act, sing and dance, and for musicians who can play the keyboards, guitar, bass or drums.
Auditions for performers will be held on Wednesday 28th July at 6.00pm at Drama Centre, Blata L-Bajda, with recalls being held on 29th July. Performers should prepare a pop/rock song and a short monologue (performed in an American accent) and bring their own backing track and/or sheet music. A short dance routine will be taught during the audition.
Direction of this musical will be by anthony bezzina whilst Kevin Abela will be musical director, Claire Cassola is in charge of choreography and Roger Tirazona is vocal coach.
