Stephen trained as a professional actor at The Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London. He has worked professionally as an actor and director for over 25 years in the UK, the USA and Europe.
An award winning director, his directorial credits include ’Allo ‘Allo, The Weir, Equus, Twelve Angry Men, Terra Nova, Dead Funny, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, Stepping Out, Chess, A Children’s Crusade, Ghetto, Blue Remembered Hills, A Clockwork Orange, Animal Farm, Breaking the Code, Having a Ball, Courtenay, Beyond Reasonable Doubt, Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Marat/Sade. Quartet, The Memory of Water, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Brimstone and Treacle, Kindertransport, Dracula the Musical, Quartet, Lear’s Daughters, 4.48 Psychosis, The Gut Girls, Pippin, Female Transport, The Wizard of Oz (RSC), Murderer, Ubu Roi, Dead Funny, East, The Harlot’s Curse.
Internationally he has directed Godspell at the National Theatre in Split, Croatia and the Municipal Theatre, Calais, France, and West Side Story, Sweeney Todd and Cabaret at the Kimble Theatre, Virginia in the USA. For National Theatre Connections he has directed It Snows, Too Fast, Blackout and Ailie and the Alien. In Malta he directed the Blue Box inaugural production of Festen, together with Masquerade’s Junior and Teen Companies productions of The Mobile Phone Show and It Snows. His devised physical theatre pieces 9/11, Boy on the Beach, The Tragedies Re-imagined and The Games Children Play were performed at M.I.T.P, Sir Temi Zammit Hall, Teatru Manoel Studio and Mediterranean Conference Centre respectively. and In 2015 he directed One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest at the Teatru Manoel and Butterflies are Free at St James Cavalier, Dracula for the Junior College Soiree and Eclipse for Masquerade’s Teen Company.
