Alfred Scalpello

MTADA 1977 graduate. Started acting career by taking part in various Shakespeare productions of the ‘Lyceum Drama group’ in Hamrun, main part being that of Lorenzo in ‘Merchant of Venice'. Played several roles in MADC's San Anton summer Shakespeare productions including that of the bleeding sergeant, one of the murderers and one of the noblemen in John Schranz's production of ‘Macbeth', a comic role in Joe Friggieri's production of ' Measure for Measure' and the main role of Willie Mossop in Alfred Mallia's production of "Hobson's choice'. Other roles played include: Lovborg in Ibsen’s' 'Hedda Gabler', the role of the father in Ibsen's 'Ghosts", Anthony in' Anthony and Cleopatra' and the' Mirror man' with Anthony Bezzina in a theatre in education programme in various schools in Malta and Gozo. I also played the father in ‘Roots’, the part of Kostiljov in Gorky’s 'Lower Depths', the part of Firs in Chekov's 'Cherry Orchard' in my own translation into Maltese of ‘the Cherry Orchard’, roles in 'Abelard and Heloise ' another comic role in Joe Quattromani's production of my translation of Pirandello's 'L'uomo, la bestia e la virtu' for Campus F.M. , the part of the butler in a Schnitzler play, the part of the murdered Bishop of Canterbury in T.S. Eliot's 'Murder in the Cathedral', the role of Cupiello’s brother in Atturi Salesjani’s November production of ‘Milied għand ta’ Cupiello , Sefelt in Steve Oliver’s ‘One flew over the cuckoo’s nest’ for Masquerade and will be playing count Killian von Strack in ‘Amadeus’.
